A Moon Drop is a refillable tea light: a rounded drop of 100% pure Pacific Northwest beeswax that burns in a stainless steel cup you keep. When one is done, the next one goes in. No plastic cup to throw away, just the candle. Like all our tea lights, each Moon Drop has a bee imprinted on the top — one of our own designs. Nothing is added to these — the soft honey note you'll notice while one is burning is the beeswax itself, just as the bees made it.

About six hours a tea light, and each one can be relit twice.
Maintenance-free — no trimming, nothing to fuss with. Just light it and enjoy it.
Naturally fragrance-free — easy around sensitive noses, kids, and pets.

Cup size: 2" wide × 1⅜" tall — a different size from a standard polycarbonate tea light cup, which is why Moon Drops get their own cups. What's in the box: 10 tea lights with 2 cups, 50 with 3 cups, or 163 with 5 cups. Every option comes with cups, so you can have more than one lit at a time.

Moon Drop or standard tea light — which one do I want?

It comes down to the holder. If you have tea light holders you love, a lantern, or a wax warmer, our standard tea lights in clear cups are the safe pick — they fit most of them. Moon Drops are shaped for the stainless steel cups they come with. They're not built for plastic-cup holders, and we don't recommend them in delicate or enclosed glass, since beeswax burns warmer and longer. If you'd rather stop throwing away a little cup every evening, Moon Drops are the one: light them in their own cup on any heat-safe surface, keep the cups, buy refills.

Common Questions

How long does a Moon Drop burn?

Around six hours. A little longer than a standard tea light, because there's more wax in the drop.

Can I relight a Moon Drop?

You can, twice. After that the burn starts to lose its quality, so the third lighting is the one to skip.

What makes Moon Drops refillable?

The stainless steel cup stays. When the wax is gone, a new drop goes in — so you're replacing the candle, not the container.

Are beeswax candles safe to burn around birds?

We don't recommend burning any candle around birds, including ours. Birds have extremely sensitive respiratory systems, and anything that burns puts something into the air. Your bird's safety matters more to us than a sale.

the big box

I love these moon based tea lights... so I ordered the big box to replace my small try it out box. I had a bit of challenge with the metal receptacles and go to a little extra effort to prepare them for the next candle, but in the honor of sustainability, I find the extra effort to be worth it. (I put a bit of water under the candle so it is more easily removed at the end of burning when I remove any remains and wipe it out.) I use it over 3 baths and this has worked great for reusing the holder. I love the amount of light, the burning time and the aroma of beeswax that is subtle and clean. Thank you Big Moon for a beautiful product, and divine packaging!

I was looking for a better candle that is safe for my family and my dogs plus yorkie puppies that I raise. I came across these beautiful candles bought them and I just LOVE THEM💓. I have came back to buy more and let’s just say I’m so happy with these. They are really well made,burn a long time and clean. I will continue buying these great candles. I also buy in bulk 99 plus!

I had a little trouble at first with what seemed like tunneling, but a little bit of care was all that was required to help them burn properly. I LOVE the metal reusable tealight holders.

Let's talk luxury tea lights!

Is there such a thing? Oh yes! I always burn a couple of tea lights along side my scented candles. I never really thought much about tea lights and just grabbed a bunch from the supermarket, or a big box store, or ordered online. But they were often really smoky even if I trimmed the wicks. They didn't last that long, maybe four hours max.

Then I stumbled on Big Moon Beeswax. I haven't found anything anywhere better than the Moon Drops. Each lasts me almost 7 hours, which is wild. They smell amazing and I find the natural honey scent compliments my scented candles really nicely. And they burn cleanly, no soot or smoke. I really love them!

My one minor nitpick is there doesn't seem to be an option to purchase them without the metal cups. So for me, I've now ordered the 50 count size three times and about to be ordering again. I wish I could order the 230 count, but my bank account says nope to that, lol. So I'll soon have twelve metal cups I can reuse. I don't really need that many, and continuing to accumulate them as I order these does seem to defeat the purpose of having the reusable cups in the first place.

That said, the Moon Drops are incredible. They really are the luxury version of a tea light. I'll definitely keep ordering them because they're that good.
